Oral Presentations
In the first week of school, students receive detailed information about oral presentations, dates, and topics. We walk them through the guidelines, explain the requirements, and offer them tips for a successful presentation.
At this point, students draw dates which designate specific time periods. They must then choose a book from their assigned time period on our reading list.
Some students choose to research important historical figures (rather than a book) from these time periods. Students must select from a predetermined list of people who have significantly impacted world events. In this case, the requirements vary slightly, and this is explained to the students during the introduction to oral presentations.
We know that "The Oral" is a frequent topic of conversation at dinner tables across the District -- with a reputation that often precedes it! This public speaking event can be one of the most challenging assignments that a student faces in high school. However, like all of life's challenges, it offers an opportunity for personal growth and can be met successfully. To do so, a student needs to approach this project with organization, diligence, and a positive attitude.
