World Literature Honors Curriculum
This class offers "a little bit of everything!" It focuses on famous works of literature, it challenges students to produce well-written essays and creative writing pieces, and it encourages critical thinking in all class discussions.
Don’t forget about our "third strand" of the course: art and architecture. The students will complete reading and note-taking assignments from a comprehensive textbook, Arts and Ideas, as well as view the well-known film series, Art of the Western World.
As we move from Ancient Greece and Rome through the 20th Century, our reading reflects the literary styles and the values of the time periods. Students in World Literature H will read some or all of the following works:
Some of the reading in this course is "fun", while other reading is also extremely challenging. The same holds true for the writing assignments. Students should possess strong reading comprehension and strong writing skills before enrolling in this course. As the course progresses, though, these abilities will certainly improve with continued interest and effort on the student’s part.
Although students will not take the English Regents Examination until the end of their junior year, this class will continue to prepare them for this rigorous exam.
