The New York State Board of Regents has initiated changes to the math
curriculum. Their Task Force
delineated each course content into five content strands; number sense and
operations, algebra,
geometry, measurement, and, statistics and probability. These topics will
be delivered via the five
recommended process strands; problem solving, reasoning and proof,
communication, connections
and representation. The intent of both the process and content strands is
to provide a variety
of ways for students to acquire and demonstrate mathematical reasoning
ability when solving
problems.
Algebra One and Geometry emphasize the Algebra strand and the Geometry
strand respectively of
the New York State Standards. Algebra Two will be offered beginning in
2009-10.
