This Sculpture class will explore the techniques and creative processes of three dimensional expression. Sculptural methods will utilize traditional and contemporary applications, such as subtractive and additive techniques with a variety of mediums. Assignments will emphasize craftsmanship, creative exploration of materials, and problem solving to bring all work to a more sophisticated level. Discussions relating to periods in art history and examples of work will be introduced. Sketches of ideas and problem solving will be part of the planning process. Critiques and participation are part of your class work. Grades are based on overall craftsmanship, understanding and timely completion of the assignment, writing in the form of self assessment, and effort and attitude. Transferring a 2-D sketch to a 3-D form is an exciting challenge and learning experience. Don’t be afraid to take chances – your work will also result in a higher level of artistic expression.
