Tips for Helping your Child Study Spanish at
Home

- Help your child create
flashcards, writing in English on one side and in Spanish on the other.
- Use your child's
vocabulary list to quiz him/her at home. Give your child the word in English
and allow him/her to tell you the word in Spanish, or vice versa.
- Encourage your child to
listen to Spanish music at home. Spanish language CD's can be purchased at
just about any music store. Students will acquire vocabulary and grammar
usage skills more easily if they hear the language used outside of class.
This is also an excellent pronunciation tool!
- Review the weekly
homework assignment sheet and check to see that homework is completed.
- Purchase familiar
children’s storybooks in Spanish. Many childhood favorites are available in
Spanish at bookstores such as Barnes & Noble. These books are simple and fun
to read!
- Most cable providers now
offer Spanish language television programming, such as Univisión and HBO
Latino. Encourage your child to watch familiar movies and/or television shows
in Spanish.
- Allow your child time to
use the various Spanish review websites offered online.
- Ask to see your child's
Spanish notes. Allow them to “teach” you what they learned in class that
day. Teaching a grammar topic to someone else is often the best way to really
grasp it yourself. You will both learn something from this experience!
