Grading System: Point System
* homework...........3-5 points
* labs.....................10 points (or more)
* tests.....................50-90 points
- Students will receive a new grade sheet each
quarter to help them, and their parents, keep track of their science grade.
-To obtain student's grade, divide the total
points achieve by the total points available and multiply by 100.
-Regular homework will be accepted for full
credit until it is gone over in class. Review sheets or end of the year
review homework will be
discussed at a later time.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE 30 HOURS OF LABS WITH A PASSING GRADE OF 7/10 OR BETTER IN ORDER TO TAKE THE REGENTS.
Conduct: Unacceptable behaviors such as excessive
talking, rudeness, use of profanity, disrespect toward Mrs. Scavo or another
student, will result in a verbal reprimand. If the behavior persists, a
referral will result with a call or email home. If the behavior continues,
a referral will result every time.
The Rules According to Scavo:
On time to class means in your
seat ready to work when the bell rings.
You must have your notebook everyday.
Read the board to know the agenda for
the day.
Homework goes in the baskets by the
door and is your responsibility.
Always be respectful to me, your
classmates, and yourself.
Participate...it is all about effort!
Seek extra help when you are
confused...I do!!
Respect the Diva's STUFF...equipment,
books, the room and its contents.
Always tell me where you are going if
you need to leave the room.
Try your best, make good decisions
and above all else, take responsibility for your actions & choices.
Effort Points: Each student will be given 5 effort points at the beginning of each quarter. Loss of these points occur when you are late to class, absent illegally from class, need to go to your locker for a science related item, do not have your homework or notebook. Any effort points not used at the end of the quarter will be added to your total points. If a student continues to come to class unprepared and/or late more than three times, a referral will result
Notebooks: A three ring notebook, loose leaf paper, one divider, and a pen or pencil is required everyday. A notebook test will be given at the end of each quarter worth 50 points. Each page of handouts, that are graded, will be numbered and on the grade sheet. Students will have the option of keeping their notebook in the classroom (at their own risk). There is a class set of textbooks; therefore students may leave their copy at home.
Absence: When you are absent, check the website to
see if there is any homework that you can complete before returning to school.
There are five tasks to complete upon your return:
1. Check the Diva Speaks Website the day you are absent. (A
copy is posted in the front of the classroom.)
2. Check the Class Folder in back of classroom.
3. Check the Egg Crates for any handouts your desk buddy might have
missed.
4. Check with a classmate to get notes or correct answers to
work that was returned.
5. If all else fails, check with Mrs. Scavo.
Tardiness: Will result in a loss of an effort point. If a student is late to class 3 times in one quarter, a referral will result.
Class Cutting: According to school policy. Also, any class points for that day, homework, lab, test, etc, will be a zero. FYI---An unexcused tardiness to school is a class cut.
