The Shenendehowa Campus Field Study Area

At Shenendehowa, we are extremely fortunate to have a large, beautiful campus that offers a variety of ecosystems that are invaluable for the study of biology.  For many years, biology teachers at Shen have been taking their classes to an open meadow behind High School West, referred to as the Field Study Area (also known as "the bowl" by many students).  This area provides an ideal location for the study of a variety of topics including:

  • ecological relationships

  • ecological succession

  • plant identification

  • application of field sampling methods

  • estimating plant and animal population sizes

  • protection of endangered species

Click on the topics below to discover what the Shen Field Study Area has to offer and how biology students can learn from it.
