An organisms habitat is where it lives and its niche is its role in the environment.  The concept of niche includes its job description and the effect the organism has on other members of the community.

Project

Chose an animal to study.  Use the internet, your text book, field guides, or library resources to research the organism.  Complete the following sheet as you do your research.  You and your partner will create a poster about the organism’s habitat and niche using the information you have collected.

1. Name of Organism (common and Latin)

2. What is its habitat (include geographic region as well as specific info)?

3. What does it eat?

4. What eats it?

5. What is its trophic level?

  6. When is it active (diurnal (day)/nocturnal (night)?

7. Does it migrate, hibernate, or go into a state or torpor to survive winter? Explain its special adaptations.

8. Does it have a mating season?  If so, when?

9. How many offspring does it usually have at once?

10. Does it have any special behavioral adaptations for mating?

11. Is the organism monogamous (one mating partners) or polygamous (many mating partners)?

12. Is it involved in material cycling?  How?

13. Draw (write) a food chain that includes this organism as well of at least 3 other organisms.

List the resources used (name of book, web address)
