2           Examples of Diffusion in Daily Life -- The ANSWERS:
Diffusion to differing degrees occurs in different states of matter.

a     Gas Phase Diffusion:
       Diffusion of pleasant odors such as  P E R F U M E,   &  B A K I N G;

                                                                      OR

         Diffusion of unpleasant odors such as  S K U N K S,    G A R B A G E,  and
         B A D    B R E A T H (you know -- halitosis)

            b     Liquid Phase Diffusion:  (In biology, the liquid is water in living cells.)

       Examples of liquid phase diffusion such as  ...

      1)     a   D Y E   dissolving in   W A T E R            

      2)     leaf pigments (T E A) dissolving in W A T E R      

      3)    deluxe  C O F F E E   with  C R E A M            

     4)     diffusion in living cells occurs across the C E L L      M E M B R A N E _                                                                         

In these four examples,  D I F F U S I O N  will take place based on the  H E A T
content.  Stirring will speed up the movement of molecules and will appear to mix the
solutions even faster.

                 c     Solid Phase Diffusion.  There is none due to lack of 
                        M O L E C U L A R     M O T I O N

Some factors which affect the rate of diffusing molecules are:

       a.   The  T E M P E R A T U R E   of the system
b.   The difference in C O N C E N T R A T I O N   of molecules across a barrier
c.   The  S I Z E    of the molecules as compared to the openings (pores) in the barrier
d.   The  S H A P E   and orientation of the molecules as the approach the barrier
