10.5 Policy Memorandum Based on What You Have Learned this Semester

This exercise requires you to review all of your work starting with Module 3 and to write a policy memo that reflects your latest thinking about a policy proposal on your societal problem. Identify the name and office of a current elected or appointed official who is a player for your policy and write a policy memo to them using the following form:

Write the body of the memo divided into the following four paragraphs using these headings:
1. Problem
Describe the problem and its level of government, its effects, evidence of the problem, and give a brief overview of the causes
2. Proposed Policy
Clearly state the policy you have proposed and indicate what government agency or agencies would adopt and which would implement it. Be sure to describe how this policy would reduce the societal problem
3. Political Feasibility
What is the likelihood of this policy being adopted – high, medium or low. Explain by discussing the players and whether they would support or oppose and why. Discuss all major obstacles to your policy being adopted, including cost of implementation and enforcement.
4. Benchmarks
Identify your three stated benchmarks, the dates they will be met and describe how and by whom they would be measured.
