Extra Spelling Practice

• www.spellingcity.com To access our words, click on Find A List. Then Type 2ndGrade Karigon and click search. Next click 2ndGrade Karigon to see our lists. You can practice the words, take a test, and play games.

• Divide each word into syllables.

• Write the words with crayons, using one color for vowels and another color for consonants.

• Make new words. Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write 2 additional words of at least 3 letters that can be spelled using the letters in the word.
  Example: flame can be used to make lame, fame, male, meal

• Take a practice test at home.

• Fraction Spelling – Write your words as fractions based on the number of vowels and consonants in each word.

• Spelling Math – Use the secret code to find the numeric value for each word.

• Make a set of flash cards for studying your words.

• Create a word search using all of your words.

• Rainbow words – Write words with a crayon. Trace over each word with another color.
  Trace each word one more time with another color. Do not use black or brown.

• Cut the words out of magazines and newspapers and make a collage on construction paper.

• Secret Code Spelling – Write the words in secret code. Use the Secret Code Key. Challenge
  a parent or sibling to use the code to decode each word. Correct their work.

• Write a friendly letter using all of the words - Must have the 5 parts of a friendly letter
  (date, greeting, body, closing, and signature.
