Bucketfillers

The children's book
Have You Filled a Bucket Today: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids
by Carol McCloud
is based on creating a positive school
environment for all students.
The Bucket Filling program is
done through school-wide assemblies and visits from the Bucket
Fillers, author Carol McCloud.
Karigon Elementary School became a "bucket filling school" after a
visit from the author Carol McCloud during the 2008-09 school year.
The assembly was presented to all grade levels. Many of our teachers
have taken the message into the classroom to create bucket filling
classrooms. The language used is simple and easy to understand. You
can hear the students use the terms bucket filling or bucket dipping
instead of name-calling. The concept is everyone carries an
invisible bucket with their good feelings about themselves everyday.
When we fill each others buckets with positive words and actions, we
are also filling our own buckets with the positive words and thoughts
we use. If we choose to dip into someone's bucket with unkind words
and actions, we empty some of their positive feelings and thoughts
about themselves.

The Bucket-Filling school program has several
CURRICULUM GOALS
:
1. To teach children how positive words ,respect
,and consideration of others will create a positive learning
environment.
2. To help children become aware of how their words and actions
effect their relationships.
3. To help children express their feelings (good and bad) in a
healthy manner
4. To help children understand where feelings originate and how to
protect their feelings from being hurt
5. To establish a framework for more constructive words and actions
and less bullying
6. To create more positive home and school environments
CONCEPTS LEARNED:
Bucket Filling (showing love and respect for others)
Bucket Dipping (bullying) hurts everyone and when you dip into
someone else's bucket you cannot fill your own.
