LANGUAGE ARTS

by Matt

In writing, we're making our own picture books.  We're going to share them with either kindergarten or first grade students sometime soon.  Our books will be 10-20 pages long.  We've been working on them for about a month now.  We are now starting to draft our picture book.  Learning about literary devices will help us write our picture book.  An example of a literary device we learned would be a Laura Numeroff book where she uses the circle device, the book comes back to the beginning of the story.  We're excited about our picture books.

Read Aloud by Matt

For read aloud, Mrs. Wilson is reading Otherwise Known as Sheila The Great.  It's about a girl named Sheila who is scared of the night and dogs. For the summer they go to one of her dad's friend's house.  Also, the friend has a dog so already Sheila's summer is off to a bad start.  But luckily for Sheila, they keep Jennifer, the dog, outside.  Also, she makes a friend named Mouse. But she has another problem, her mom signs her up for swimming lessons but she hates the water.  But still her instructor tries to teach her to swim.  This should be a fun book!
