***Be sure to follow all steps below sometime before you departure.***
***If all of your papers are neat and orderly, there is less chance that the inspectors will hassle you!***
Passport and Letter of Recommendation
1. Choose 1 to 3 other students to be a part of your "family".
2. Print out a note-taking sheet and go to the resources page to check out some websites for ideas. You need to read VERY carefully.
3. Sit by your "family" in the computer lab and take notes on the note-taking sheet. This will take at least one full computer lab session. Keep going back to the web sites for ideas.
4. Your teacher will give you a passport for each family member. Discuss and completely fill it out together. Remember to use some of the information that you learned from the websites in your passport.
5. Your teacher will give you directions about how to write the letter of recommendation. Remember to use your note-taking sheet to help you.
Birth Certificate
1. Use your passport to figure out the year you (the immigrant) were born. Remember-- you are immigrating in the year 1900! Subtract the age that you will be on immigration day from 1900 to figure out your year of birth.
2. Check your passport for your place of birth.
3. Make up a doctor's name. There is a fancy font for his signature.
4. Click here to create a birth certificate.
5. Your teacher will show you how to make the birth certificate look old, using tea bags, in your classroom.
