READING
We are reading many stories from our reading book called Trophies. We also keep a reading journal and you have been selecting some great literature books to read and write about. We are now reading survival books and will write about these books in our reading journals.
Spelling
and GrammarWe are using a Grammar Handbook this year. We are learning about different parts of speech. In Spelling, every Monday there is a pretest. If you receive 100% on the pretest on the basic words, you only take the challenge words on Friday's test. Otherwise, you take the basic words and the challenge words.
WRITING
We are now reading picture books by authors like Laura Numeroff, Kevin Henkes and Robert Munsh, and Jane Yolen. Then we will write picture books in the style of the mentor authors.
