Where in the World is
Mrs. Morrissey's Class?

Mr. Wing checks each
passport, stamps it and gives us flight wings. We are
soon on our way to a fascinating country! Look where we have
visited.
We loved visiting Australia! It is the only country that is also a continent. It's located in the southern hemisphere. Australia's animals are amazing!. After research in the library each student wrote about an animal and placed them in their habitats.
We toured through the different regions and enjoyed the cities, The Outback and of course the Great Barrier Reef.
The Sydney Opera House is located on the harbor. This cool building is designed to look like a giant sailing ship. We enjoyed listening to the opera.
8th Wonder of the World
Mr. Sawyer came in to snorkel in our Great Barrier Reef! It is the largest chain of coral reefs on earth. It is located off the northeast coast of Australia. We researched animals that live in Australia. Many lived in the Great Barrier Reef.
Mem Fox, one of our favorite authors is from Australia. We enjoyed her books while we studied about the country.

We enjoyed studying about Aborigine art. We created bark art, decorated boomerangs, and made rain sticks.
Best of all we visited The Outback Restaurant! They taught us how to make Aussie Chips in their kitchen. We scoured the restaurant on a scavenger hunt for Australian artifacts and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Check out the photos on the class activities page!
Wow! We loved Egypt! After studying the history and art of Egypt, we each made a life-sized sarcophagus.

Making Salt Maps

In the spring we "fly" to beautiful Japan. Motoko, a Japanese storyteller visits the third grade and shares traditional folktales with us. Motoko comes to each class and makes a special project. We made Oni masks!

Each year we are lucky to have Mrs. Shaefer and her mother Obachan visit our classroom. They come dressed in beautiful, traditional Japanese kimonos. They show us pictures of Japan and tell us how people live. They taught us to make origami hats made from Japanese newspaper.
