Language Arts

In Fourth grade we use the Harcourt "Trophies" reading series. This book covers reading comprehension, oral reading skills, grammar, and spelling.  In addition to our reading series we will be reading many other literature books and keeping a reading journal. For some fun Language Arts activities follow Champ.    

Math

In Fourth grade we will be studying  number sense, place value, ordering numbers, math operations, graphing, telling time, elapsed time, multiplication, geometry, area and perimeter, symmetry, measurement,  probability, and predicting outcomes. We will also be participating in "Mad Minutes", a fun activity designed to help students learn their multiplication facts.  For some fun math activities, follow the link.

Social Studies

In Fourth grade we will be studying New York State, which will include geography, map skills, Native Americans, explorers, early settlers, the American Revolution, and government.  The highlight of our studies will be a grade level "Immigration Day".  We will also be using Time For Kids to keep up with current events. Science

Science will include the study of simple machines, endangered animals, electricity, magnetism, and chemistry.  Students will participate in many of these units in cooperative learning groups.  Follow the link to find some fun simple machine activities.
