Accomplishments

The Koda Partnership Team, garnering input from staff, students, parents, and community members, developed the goals listed below for the 2008-2009 school year.  Each goal was then broken into tangible action steps that drove the team's work throughout the course of the year.  This document is a reflection of the accomplishments that were made at Koda as the aforementioned action steps were put into motion.  We respectfully submit this summary to Dr. Robinson and the District Partnership Team to share with the Shenendehowa Board of Education as they see fit.

 

Goal: The KPT will promote and support literacy for all students.

Programs which promote reading amongst students and adults will be planned and implemented throughout the year

 

 

Gordon Korman’s Schooled – read by all 3 grade levels in all 3 buildings; Author visit on 4/29 and 4/30

 

Drop Everything And Read – extended 18 minute homeroom every Wednesday for the first semester of the school year

Respect Week – National Junior Honor Society Book Swap, DEAR, 6th grade Battle of the Books

 

Borders Summer Book Sale at Koda Café

 

Summer Books displayed and available at Borders and Public Library

 

MS reading club for staff

 

Arts n Education – Jennifer Roy, author of Yellow Star, visit, NYSTI presentation of “Philadelphia Story”

 

Goal:  The KPT will promote and support academic progress and achievement for all students.

Accomplishment

Staff meetings will focus on a “community of learners”  whereby a portion of numerous meetings will be devoted to staff development

 

Presentations were given by various staff members, administrators and guest speakers

Administration will make every effort to extend the “community of learners” concept by attending and encouraging ongoing staff development for all professional staff

 

Staff and administrators attended learning academies and encouraged other staff to attend

Programs that support/spotlight student achievement/success will be planned and implemented throughout the year.

 

 

Recognize “Koda Gem” students on a monthly basis that follow Middle School Rights and Expectations

 

Mix-It-Up Luncheons – November 13th, 2008 – part of a national movement promoting respect, understanding and tolerance of others

 

Respect Week – Koda Middle School Jazz Band performs during all lunch periods

 

Koda Café – May 27th, 2009 – Accent student work and talent

 

Anti-Bullying Programs presented by counselors & administration to all grade levels – coincided with reading of Schooled

 

National Junior Honor Society – Induction Ceremony May 20th, 2009 – recognizing students that show academic achievement, meet a community service requirement and are involved in extra curricular activities

 

Academic Awards Banquet for 6th and 7th graders – June 4th, 2009

 

PRIDE – Promoting Respect in Individuals & Differences in Everybody

 

Administration meets with teams to focus on team activities that promote students success

 

Goal: The KPT will increase communication and channels of input between students, staff, administration, parents, the school board and community.
