Do you...

  • Have a new student at the Middle School?

  • Want to know more about the library program and services?

  • Want to help your student maximize the use of resources available?

Check out the questions below most frequently asked by parents!

My child is coming from an elementary schedule. How and when will he/she use the library?

Students can use the Middle School Library a variety of times throughout the day:

  • With a class- Teacher will schedule research units, booktalks, etc. as appropriate to the curriculum.

  • From Study Halls or Resource - with a pass issued by the teacher or monitor.

  • After lunch- with a pass issued by a cafeteria monitor.

Are there any other times my student can use the Middle School Library?

The Middle School Library is open for student use during the following times:

  • Before school, 8:00A.M.-8:45A.M. daily (No Pass required)

  • After school, 3:35P.M.-4:10P.M. with a teacher pass

How can I help my child with research at home?

There are several things you can do:

  • Familiarize yourself with the school Agenda Book given to your student; he/she should be recording Assignment Details there.

  • If you have access to a computer, explore the Databases/Websites previously introduced to your student in class (recommended by the librarian/teacher.)

Where can we get the passwords for the different databases?

Password sheets are updated annually and available in the Middle School Library . Individual database passwords are given to students as they are instructed in the various databases.

Where does the Public Library fit in this picture?

Students are encouraged to be lifelong library users, accessing a variety of resources for individual assignments. Database and online catalog searching skills are universal and hopefully will transfer. Interlibrary loan is a great option and can be done online.

What if you don't have the book my child needs-are there any other options?

Interlibrary loan, both within our district and the Greater Capital Region BOCES , is done in high volume and at no cost to your student. When he/she learns to use the online catalog, HORIZON, he also learns how to request any items wanted or needed.
