ACADIA SKI
CLUB
ADVISORS:
Mrs. Quinn/Mr. Messinger
The Acadia
Ski Club brings 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on six ski
trips to West Mountain for skiing and snowboarding fun. We begin
January 11th and ski/board on consecutive Thursdays until we have
made six trips. We leave school at 3:50 and return at 8:45pm.
We travel on coach busses so that students have a place to do
homework as we drive. Students can bring their own equipment or
rent skis/boards/boots/helmets and are encouraged to sign-up for
ski/board lessons through the program. Students must provide or
purchase their own snacks and dinner. Parents must bring
student owned equipment to school between 8:00-8:40am the morning of
each trip, coming in through the cafeteria doors. There are academic eligibility regulations.
There
are two mandatory meetings:
1.)
The Informational
Meeting -- all students
must attend
this meeting and pick up the materials and go over policies.
Parents are also welcome to attend. It will be held, Thursday,
Sept. 21st at 8:00 am in the Acadia Cafe. Students who do not
attend will miss vital information.
2.)
The Sign-Up Meeting
-- Friday, October 6th at 7:45 am in the Acadia Cafeteria.
Sign-ups are on a first-come, first serve basis. The club can take 140 skiers
this year and we will not create a waiting list. All money
and all forms must be complete and filled-in properly to be
accepted. Students must enter the cafeteria from the outside
door of the cafe for this meeting and are NOT permitted to be
dropped off prior to 7:40 am.
Skiing/boarding is
a fun-filled, yet potentially dangerous sport. Therefore, we
require all students to wear helmets. Costs run from
$100-200 for lift ticket, lesson and rental programs. Only
Acadia students are eligible to join.
