Scientific
Method

Below are the seven basic steps that will be followed during a lab exercise.

It is important to answer each step thoroughly and include information about concepts discussed in class.

Think like a Scientist

1.     ASK A QUESTION:  Describe the problem you are trying to solve.

2.     RESEARCH YOUR TOPIC:

o       Investigate what others have already
learned about your question.

o       Gather information that will help you
perform your experiment.

3.      FORM A HYPOTHESIS:  Propose a solution…
                                             “Make an educated guess”…

4.      TEST THE HYPOTHESIS:  Design and conduct an experiment…

o       Write down supplies you will need for your experiment.

o       Write down the steps you will have in your experiment.

5.     ANALYZE THE RESULTS:  Collect and graph your data…

6.     DRAW CONCLUSIONS:

o       Did you solve the problem?

o       What proof do you have that you
 are correct?

7.  COMMUNICATE RESULTS:  Share your conclusions with others!
