Click on the music icon to hear a song. You probably recognize this theme song from the movie, Jurassic Park.  This movie explores the devastating effects of what could happen if man were to tamper with the genetic composition of DNA.  As you know, the gigantic reptiles that roamed the land during the Mesozoic Era were miraculously brought back to life. The moral to this story brings to mind how the delicate balance of life should be left in the hands of nature, not man.

Are you wondering what the connection is between these powerful creatures that became extinct over 65 million years ago and our study of  Earth Science?  Actually, our Earth is in a continuous cycle of change.  Even as you read these words, many changes are occurring in our very own environment.   Man has learned much about this planet through the study of geology, the study of Earth's surface, its interior, and its history.

For over 150 years people have been fascinated by the fossilized bones of dinosaurs.  These bones are a testament to magnificent creatures that once flourished for millions and millions of years, and then mysteriously vanished.  Paleontologists have presented to us a life that is almost unimaginable, but so much a part of Earth's ever-changing history.

Our curriculum begins with the study of geologic time and the characteristics of our earth's surface.  However, there is so much more to learn....  We will find out about the causes and effects of everything that happens around us each and every day....  We will explore the undersea world, the unpredictable natural disasters, changes in our everyday weather, and the wonders of our outer frontier.

Geologic time includes Precambrian time, Paleozoic Era, Mesozoic Era, and Cenozoic Era.  See if you can identify the animals below that lived during  the Mesozoic Era.
