Welcome to Acadia Middle School!
Click here for the middle school-related links page. There are sites posted that contain many topics related to middle school student learning, academic content areas, nutrition, etc. While some of these sites are primarily written for teachers of middle school-aged students, they are also important resources for parents. Aside from academic information related to your child(ren), it's important for parents/guardians to better understand the emotional and psychological dynamics of adolescents. Toward this end, I recommend that you read some information on the developmental aspects of your child(ren). The recent research in this area over the past several years is significant and eye-opening. You can find out more about this by doing an internet search for articles and books on adolescent brain development. One book I have found to be very elucidating is, WHY Do They Act That Way?: A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen, by David Walsh and Nat Bennett (link included). This is just one resource among many. The more educators and parents understand how our children biologically "operate," the better we are able to help them to achieve - academically, emotionally, and socially.
