Homework and Grading Policy

Homework is a crucial part of your average in each of your classes.  It will be checked every day and some assignments may be collected and taken for a grade.  Please do not take this lightly! In order to succeed in the middle school, you must accept responsibility for completing ALL homework assignments on time.  It is your responsibility to talk to your teachers if you have any questions before the assignment is due.  You will receive ample time for any long-term assignments and should learn to follow a schedule so the work is not left to the last minute.

If you are absent from school, you will be expected to check with the teachers and make up the work within a set period of time; this will vary depending upon the length of the absence.  It would be in your best interest to contact a friend and/or check our team website to find out if there is any work you can do at home.

Every project, test, quiz, and notebook/binder check will be given a point value.  At the end of each quarter, your average will be determined by dividing the number of points you have earned by the total number of points possible.  Each homework assignment will affect your average in the following way:

§         done and done well: 5 points (full credit)

§         late one day: 3 out of 5 points

§         not completed at all: 0 points

Students who do not complete homework assignments will attend “Homework Club” during lunch at the beginning of the following week.  If an assignment is late or missed, there will be a stamp indicating that they will be attending “Homework Club”.  Please check your child’s agenda daily and provide your signature if you see this stamp.

As you see, it is essential that each student be self-motivated and responsible for completing all assigned work both in class and at home.  To ensure success in this area and to encourage strong work habits and organizational skills, we use a variety of tools.  Daily use of an agenda (planner), homework monitoring, and consistent home-school communication assist students in remaining on track.  Students should set aside an average of 1 hour each night for homework.  This time may be used to complete unfinished class work and read or review material covered in class.
