New York State Math Curriculum

In March, every sixth grader
will be taking the New York State Math Assessment. This exam is a “snapshot” of
your knowledge and understanding of what you have learned this year in math.
The results will give you, your parents, teachers, and administrators a look at
the progress you are making. It also gives us an opportunity to look at the
current math program and make adjustments where needed.

Assessment from the State Education Department,

The assessment emphasizes problem solving, procedural
fluency, and conceptual understanding. It means being able to solve a problem,
showing the work, and being able to explain how the answer was determined.
