Daily Supplies:

Pencil with eraser every day

Agenda notebook every day

Highlighter every day

Scientific Calculator every day

1 ½ inch binder every day – you will keep your notes, homework, quizzes and tests in this binder

Grading Policy:

Grades are figured using a point system. All points will be averaged at the end of the marking period and that will be your grade. You will be told in advance how many points each assignment is worth. You will keep track of your points earned and calculate your quarter grade every time you receive your graded work back from me. You can compare your math grade to mine anytime by visiting the parent/student portal.

Grade Calculation Example

Homework assignment : 10,10, 10, 10, 10 points Quizzes : 50, 30, 20, 20, 25 Tests: 95, 120, 75

Binder Check: 25

Total Points You Earned = 460

Total Points Available = 510

Quarter Average = 460/510 = 90%

***Please understand that this simply an example; you will have more assignments, quizzes and test each quarter***

Quizzes

You will be given at least 24 hours notice for quizzes- see the team web page and the test/quiz alert board in the room. In the case that you are legally absent the day of a quiz, come see me upon returning to school and make arrangements to make it up.

Tests

Tests will be given at the conclusion of each unit. In the case that you are legally absent the day of a test, it is your responsibly to see me upon returning to school to make arrangements to make it up.

Math Note Binder

Your Math Binder will have four sections

Assignments

Assignments must be handed in in class on the due date for full credit. If you hand in an incomplete assignment you will earn no credit and see _________________on your paper. You may then complete the assignment for 50% of the points. All completed assignments turned in late earn 50% of the points. No late assignments are accepted beyond one week of the date due. If you are absent, please be responsible by checking the team website/homework page, call a classmate or see me for makeup work the day you return to school. Duplicate copies of papers handed out in class are available in the "Duplicates" tray in the classroom. You get 24 hours for each day you are absent to complete and hand in missed work. Assignments handed in after your absence make up time are considered late and are subject to the 50% decrease in points.

Extra Help

I will be available for extra help periods 2, 8, before school at 8:10 every day (except Tuesday) by appointment only, or a different time by appointment only. Also, be sure to join the team teachers and your fellow classmates for Homework Club on TBA after school for fun with your friends, snacks and help with your homework. Also visit my website for links to sites that can help you and provide you with skill building practice.

Textbook Policy

In June, students must hand in the same textbook assigned to them in September. Failure to do so will result in the cost of a new textbook. Fees will be applied in the case of vandalism or destruction beyond normal wear and tear.

Guidelines for a Successful Year in Math Class

    1. Respect all human rights of others
    2. Respect yourself enough to try your best each day
    3. Come to class every day prepared and organized
    4. Focus on the task at hand
    5. Be on time for class -3 lates = call home
    6. Hand in assignments on time
    7. Study for quizzes and tests (how do you study math? By doing math!)

Stay organized, prepared and alert, and remember I am here to help you (helping students is my favorite part of being a teacher), so please ask for it whenever you need it!
