Language Arts
Overview

- Our
curriculum is based on the New York State Standards and the District’s
Essential Contents and Competencies.
- Language
Arts is divided into several components, including, but not limited to:
Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking
- We will
be utilizing Holt's “Elements of Literature” in conjunction with outside resources.
“The Writing Process” will be a major focus throughout the year and
will be integrated throughout the core classes.

- Each week
students will be quizzed on our Word of the Day vocabulary, which will
also be evaluated for spelling.
- Folders
and notebooks will be checked periodically.
- Grading
will be based on a point system.
**Writing
samples will be kept throughout the year as we will be creating an
electronic portfolio, but rubrics will be
sent home with the students.
