Classroom Expectations

 

I.                  Textbook

A.   Concepts and Challenges  PHYSICAL SCIENCE

B.   You must cover your textbook as a graded homework assignment.

C.   Once I have seen that your book is covered, you may bring it home, keep it in a safe place.  There is a class set of textbooks for use in the classroom.  You may sign out a textbook to use during study hall.

 

II.               Agenda Book

A.   Bring your agenda to class every day.

B.   Keep your agenda book in good shape.

C.   DO NOT REMOVE THE PERIODIC TABLE FROM YOUR AGENDA!!

D.   Homework assignments and quiz dates will be listed weekly on the agenda white board.  Time will be allowed on Mondays at the start of class for you to record assignments in your agenda.  The assignments will remain on the board for the entire week.

III.           Notebook

A.   You will keep notes in a 1 ˝ inch three ring binder

B.   Notes are an important part of this class.

C.   Your notes serve as an excellent resource to study for tests and quizzes.

D.   Notes are generated from our class discussions.  I use the overhead and the chalk board.  In either case I may not have a hard copy of the day’s notes. 

E.    You must select a notebook buddy from the class.  This is to be a person you can rely on to take accurate notes that they can share with you in the event of illness, music lessons, etc.

F.    The notebook is organized by topic.  A new section of the notebook will be set up each time we begin a new topic.  All notes, labs, homeworks, tests etc. relating to the current topic will be numbered and filed in the notebook sequentially.

G.  Notebooks will be checked and graded out of 25 points each month.

 

 

IV.            Labs

A.   This is a hands—on, lab activity based course.  Labs make up a large percentage of your quarter grade.  Lab reports are worth 10 to 50 points and are to be handed in on time or points will be lost.

 

V.               Homework

A.   Homework assignments will be listed on the website

B.   You will have homework nightly.

C.   Homework is always due the day after it is assigned.

D.   2—1—0  If homework is handed in on time, it is worth 2 points.  If homework is a day late, it is worth 1 point.  Any later, homework receives no credit.  Look forward to a call home if you have three missing homework assignments.

 

VI.            Tests and Quizzes

A.   There are frequent quizzes.  When we get to the Chemistry unit, expect weekly quizzes.  Quizzes are worth 10 to 40 points.

B.   There will be at least one 50 to 100 point test per quarter.

C.  Quiz and test dates will be announced on the agenda board and on the website  I will make every attempt to coordinate test dates with other team teachers.

 

VII.        Strategies for making up missed work:

A.   See your notebook buddy for missed notes.

B.   See the agenda book in the front of the room for the word of the day, outline of daily class work, handouts, and homework assignments.

C.   Copies of the handouts will be in the baskets beneath the agenda white board.

D.   See me to arrange make up dates for missed labs, quizzes, and tests.

VIII.     Extra Help

A.   I am free periods:  ___________________________________

B.   I am available before and after school, just be sure to check with me and write it down on the extra help clip board.

 

All students are expected to come to class on time, prepared, and ready to learn.
