can use running water to

farther than
it would have without it.

Water pumps take moving water and use it to spin a turbine that generates electricity. With some of the energy gathered by the turbines, water is put into a pipe where it uses the some of the electricity to apply pressure to the pipe in order to force water from one place to another.
