Pollution

                                                               What is Air Pollution?

Air pollution is the modification of the natural characteristics of the atmosphere by a chemical

particulate matter.  Also, it is a mixture of solid particles and gasses in the air.

Usually  when  people think about pollution we think smog and acid rain, CFC's and other

forms of outdoor pollution. But did you know that air pollution happens inside homes and

                                other buildings!!!!!

                                                                        What is water pollution?

Water pollution is a large set of adverse effects upon water bodies such as lakes,

rivers, oceans and groundwater  caused by human activities.

Although some kinds of water pollution can occur through natural processes, it is mostly a

result of human activities.  We use water daily in our homes and industries, about 150 gallons

per day, per person in the U.S.  Some sources of water pollution are direct and indirect

contaminant sources. Direct sources include effluent outfalls from factories, refineries, waste

treatment plants etc.. that emit fluids of varying quality directly into urban water supplies.

Indirect sources include contaminants that enter the water supply from soils/groundwater systems

and from the atmosphere via rain water.

                                                                              Global Warming

The deadline for deciding whether to list the big white bears as threatened under the Endangered

Species Act is Wednesday but Dale Hall, head of the Fish and Wildlife Service, told reporters it

would take as much as a month more to analyze all the information. This is the first time global

warming has been a factor in proposing threatened status for any U.S. species, Hall said, and

and that has added to the complexity of the decision.
