  • Explain how water vapor in the atmosphere causes clouds, rain, hail, sleet and snow

  • Describe how fronts are associated with large weather areas and can lead to severe weather.

  • Identify and use weather maps including symbols to predict future weather.

  • Explore the factors that help determine the climate of a region and the type of organisms that are adapted to live there.

In-class Laboratories:

Up, Up and a Away!:  You will get a rise out of this lab.

Question:  What are you lofty goals for this lab, how far can you rise to the occasion?
Materials:  Oak Tag Paper, Tissue Paper, Glue Stick, Scissors.

Rain In A Bottle:  Getting water to drink is easy, unless you live in a desert.

  • Question:  Can you get the fresh water out of the dirty water?
  • Materials:  Parts of two liter bottle, Dirty water, cup, ice

Heating Things Up: It takes more than the sun alone to get things cooking

  • Question:  What variables affect the rate and houses temperature rises?
  • Materials: Construction Paper, Thermometer, Timer

Wild Weather Warnings: You are the meteorologist making predictions for the morning commute.

  • Question:  Can you make an accurate forecast for tomorrow’s weather?
  • Materials:  Hand Lens, Weather map, Weather map symbols appendix in book
