WHAT IS FACS?

PROCESS SKILLS

In grade 6 students learn and practice four process skills that they will use now and in their future.  These skills are communication, thinking, management, and leadership.  Students practice these skills by completing activities in each of the units we cover.

NUTRITION AND WELLNESS

Students learn about food safety and sanitation, how to read a recipe, and proper measuring techniques.  Students practice these skills by working as a team to complete a "food related" community service project.

SURVIVAL SEWING

We also learn basic hand sewing skills by make sock puppets.  These puppets can be used by the students when they play with younger children for fun, or while working as a babysitter.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Caring for young children is another fun topic students enjoy. Students learn the ages and stages of growth and development for infant to school age children.  We work in groups to create snack mix, play dough and story books for children that visit our class for observation.
