Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
The earliest newspapers in this country were published during the time of English rule. They served as valuable tools for both communication and information.
You will travel over 225 years back through time. When you arrive you will be living during one of the most exciting moments in history. The American colonies will be struggling to break away from their mother country. You will meet people who strongly oppose breaking away from England and others who believe it is the destiny of America to be free, such as many of the characters from the novels that you recently read in English class.
While you are there, you will be working for a local newspaper. You will be reporting on the events as they unfold. Your group will be creating a Revolutionary War Newspaper. Each student will be responsible for writing one major news article and a smaller secondary piece, both of which will be based on research completed during class time and on one’s own. These pieces will then be put into a group newspaper. You will be presenting your project to an audience consisting of your Social Studies and English teachers and peers.
Your newspaper can be formatted in four different ways.
1. You can create an online newspaper using Front Page in order to design a webpage.
2. You can create a newspaper using Power Point.
3. You can create a news program using Photo Story 3.
4. You can create a physical newspaper that might look like a newspaper from the American Revolution period.
