The Founding of the 13 Colonies

Introduction:

You are an apprentice printer during colonial times.  You have been given the job of designing brochures.  The brochures are to be handed out in Europe in attempts to get more people to immigrate to the colonies.  In order to complete your job, you must find out specific information about each colony so you can gear your brochures towards specific groups of people.

 

 

Task:

Your task is to research and record information about the founding of the 13 colonies.  You will complete 3 worksheets, (one on New England, Middle and Southern colonies).  For each colony you will explain when it was founded, by whom and why it was founded.  For each colonial region, you will describe the geography, the economy, religion and role of slavery.  After you have completed the worksheets on all 13 colonies, you will choose 1 colony and design a brochure. 

 

You must create a brochure on a colony that will include the following information:

 

Process:

        1. Using the links below complete binder pages 109-111 (How the

                         Middle Colonies

                         Southern Colonies

                         Religion of the Colonies

                         Summary of the Colonies

                         Summary of Individual Colonies
                                    Specific Information on each Colony

 

    2. Choose 1 of the 13 Original colonies and design and create a brochure. Use the worksheets to help you, as well as additional research.  Your brochure should be designed to be distributed in Europe to get more people to come to the colony picked.  Your brochure MUST include the following information:

 

3.  Your worksheets must be done by Thursday, Nov. 16th brochures must be
     handed in on Tuesday, Nov. 21st.

Evaluation:

You will be graded each day on how you work on the webquest in class.
               5 pts—Student worked diligently & accomplished much
               4 pts—Student worked well & accomplished enough
               3 pts—Student was distracted at times & accomplished
                          some work

               2pts—Student was distracted & did not accomplish much
               1pt—Student distracted others & did not get work done
