historical writing process with a Document Based Question Essay on how the
Iroquois used their natural resources in the development of

November, 2008:
Colony Webquest
Students
will be working on a webquest research activity on the 13 Colonies.
Students will research the founding and settling of the 13 original colonies
for 3 days in the E-Library. Then they will choose 1 colony and design a
brochure to lure more Europeans to that specific colony. Brochures will be
due on November
January 2009: English-Social
Studies Research Paper
We will be researching a topic from the American Revolution and writing a 4-6 page research paper on the topic. Students will learn all the key steps in doing both research and writing. The research and writing activities are done both in class and at home, and will take us about two and half weeks. Students will have daily goals to reach each day to insure that they do not fall behind. The final copy of the research paper will be handed in on January . Information packets will be sent home before December vacation.
April 2009: Westward
Expansion Game
Performance Task
We will be researching how the United States expanded from the Louisiana Purchase to the California Gold Rush. Students will become experts on this time period in American History and will then create a unique game that all 7th grade students will be able to play. This task can be done individually or in a group. Students also learn proper question writing skills and direction writing skills since this task is also done with the English classes. Some work will have to be done over April Break!! All Games are due before 1st period to Mrs. Cummings or Mrs. Pearson on April .

May 2009: Civil War Re-enactors
We will be having Civil War re-enactors coming to Koda in May to explain how the soldiers lived during the Civil War.
