Team 8-2 Policies and Procedures
(English, Social Studies, Math and Science)
Homework is an important part of every course. It helps to expand and sharpen the skills learned in the classroom and introduce new materials. It provides teachers with a measure of effort as well as accomplishment. Although individual teacher policies may vary, the team has agreed to an overall policy with regards to minimum standards and consequences for missing or late work.
EXTENDED ABSENCE - Parents should notify all teachers in writing of any anticipated extended absence.
OVERDUE HOMEWORK – Students are responsible for keeping track of their daily assignments in their agenda notebooks. Assignments are posted in each room by individual teachers. Work is expected to be handed in on the day it is due in class and at the beginning of the period. All other work is late (unless absent from school or extenuating circumstances apply). Late work can only be submitted by completing an ASAP session after school. (See below).
ASAP – After School Assistance Program – The team has arranged to be available for before or after school extra help sessions (see website). These are times where a student can get extra help or make up back school work. ASAP will be used as a retention period for students who do not complete the assigned reading or homework for that day. A separate pass will be issued for the after-school help session in order to complete the assigned work. Students will have the potential to earn full credit if the work is completed in the ASAP session on the same day it is due. Students may be able to receive up to 50% of the grade for making up work by staying after school for ASAP any day within the five week marking period. Late homework will only be accepted in ASAP.
DETENTION – In the event that a student does not show up for an assigned ASAP session, the teachers may write up an office referral for detention. This is a last resort to try and emphasize the consequences for not completing the assigned tasks. By signing the prior approval line below, teachers will be able to use this in order to try and improve homework performance.
SUBSTITUTE POLICY – In the event that one of the team teachers is absent, the student is expected to behave and respect substitute teachers. If a student chooses not to act respectfully for a substitute, they will be given two (2) after school detentions with that subject area teacher. If there is a second offense, the student will receive an office referral.
I give teachers permission to assign detention to my son/daughter in order to work towards the completion of the assigned tasks. _____________________________
