Resource/Academic Support Policy

Resource:

The Resource program is to supplement classroom instruction. It is important students understand this is NOT A STUDY HALL! In Resource, we work on skills such as organization, study skills and reinforcement of daily lessons. The 43 minute daily Resource period at this level is used to reinforce what students learn in their classes during the day so they are better prepared to complete outside assignments: It is not for completing homework!

During their Resource period, the students will take out their agendas which I will check for completion. Next, we will go over the directions and do a few questions/problems for all assignments given that day. We will also go over any upcoming projects to insure student understanding. If a test is approaching, we will highlight notes and start reviewing for that particular test. Every Friday is “Organization Day,” where students will bring all binders and their homework folder to organize them. I will check them for accuracy. If we have gone over all assignment directions and I know a student is confident, then I will let that student start and/or complete his/her homework during Resource.

 Academic Support:

Academic Support is a period where students come in to meet with the special education teacher for extra help. This service is in addition to other special education services. This period can be used for homework reinforcement and skill building. This period is also utilized for students to meet with other classroom teachers for extra help.

*If homework slips for any student, I will write a note in the agenda. If a student is not completing homework on time and/or not at all, I will e-mail you or contact you by phone, so we come up with a plan together.
