Course Description:    

                                                                    

Students will apply the knowledge of measurement skills, technical drawing,

design, lab safety, tool/equipment usage and material processes to design, build and test a CO2  powered dragster

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the following projects/activities, students will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of the study of technology

  • Explain how technology effects our everyday lives

  • Explain how it will shape our future, and

  • Explain how we can use our resources wisely in order to satisfy our needs and wants.

Time Requirements:

design, lab safety, tool/equipment usage and material processes to design, build and test a CO2  powered dragster

Course Objectives:

  • Safely and properly use the tools of the tech lab

  • Design a 3D model of a Co2 Dragster using Autodesk Inventor

Time Requirements:               

Week 1-2    Introduction to Technology 7

·        Course introduction

·        Measurement review

·        Reading a ruler and tape measure       

·        Measurement activities

·        Measurement Quiz

 

Week 3-5      

· CAD using autodesk inventor     

Orthographic projection

Isometric design of objects

    • Design 3D model and top, side view printouts to full scale of student designed co2 dragster

Week6                                                                                                                  

·        Dragster "Fast Cars" Video

·        Thumbnail sketching ideas                        

·        Graded top and side view printouts

Week 7

·        Safety (with Permit)

a.      Tools

·        Multi-view CAD drawings

a.      Top View

b.     Side view

 

·        Use of templates

·        Symmetry

 

 

Week7,8,9

 

·        Demonstration and quiz for drill press

·        Demonstration and quiz for scroll saw

·        Lesson on hand shaping tools

·        Lesson on power shaping tools

·        Work periods for construction of CO2 dragster from plans

Week 10    

·        Assembly of CO2 dragster, (wheels, axles, cartridge)     

·        Decals, numbers

·        Turn in project for grading

·        Race Day – (race dragsters)

·        Calculation of MPH of individual dragster

·        Finishing/painting

. *Return to computer lab for completion of isometric drawings using autodesk inventor
