Mrs. Maher's Classroom Policies

Classroom expectations: Students are expected to follow Shenendehowa's Be Here, Be Safe, Be Responsible and Set Goals motto.  Math is a challenging class for many.  Students are being held to higher and higher standards.  We need to take every moment of class time to be productive and focus on learning.   Students need to come to class prepared to work.  In the classroom that translates to students remaining on task, working hard on the class-work assigned, asking questions and formulating answers.  Students can get extra help any time, but need to ASK.

Homework expectations: I assign homework almost nightly.  Multiple exposures to material has proven to increase student learning, and for this reason I assign homework with each topic we learn.  Students are expected to come to class prepared with the previous night's assignment.  Most homework assignments that I collect are worth 5 points.  If an assignment is not turned in on time, the student needs to complete it in a timely manner and bring it to me (I will not hunt them down).  I will then change the 0/5 to a 3/5.  The grade will remain a zero unless they get the assignment to me.

Absences: Students who are absent need to see the teachers whose classes they missed and get the work made up in a timely manner.  Assignments will not be marked late (unless the student never makes them up, or does so in an untimely manner).  We stress that when a student returns to school after an absence they immediate go to see each of the teacher's classes they missed while they were out (before homeroom even starts).  If a student is ill and may be out for a longer period of time (more than two days) please contact the guidance counselor at 881-0470 extension 52450 and they will coordinate the students work so it may be picked up by a parent.
