Welcome to middle school!
Realizing the importance of parental involvement in the
success of our students, we would like to share with you
some opportunities to be involved in your child's middle
school experience.
The Profile
of a Middle School Student utilizes the same framework and outcomes
established in the Profile of a Shenendehowa Graduate.
Your
child will be collecting evidence of their progress in each
of eight "critical attribute" areas. The goal is for
students, parents and the school to gain a better
understanding of the "whole child". Evidence will take
many forms and will include, for example, a written
report or project, a certificate of participation in a
community event, a video tape of a musical performance they
participated in etc.
How can
you support this initiative? Review the goals and
expectations include in a sixteen page insert found in your
child's student agenda. Encourage your child to
collect evidence of their progress regarding each critical
attribute area through activities they participate in
outside of school. Join the Middle School Vision
Parent Committee or Student Committee by contacting the Lead
Principals Office.
For more
information regarding this and other initiatives, please
access the Parent Page under "School Links" to right
of this column. The Parent Page will link you to the Middle
School Parent Handbook and Program of Studies, Profile of a
Middle School Student, Middle School Vision and many other
valuable resources. |
