Here is a brief overview of the policies and procedures of the class.

Homework – Homework is given Monday through Thursday nights. I do not give homework on weekends as I feel it is a family time and time for the students to relax. Below is what to expect for homework each night in a typical week, although other homework may be assigned if necessary.

Monday – spelling words assigned; spelling homework (almost always cursive list and another assignment) and study words; math homework, reading homework; read for 15 minutes

Tuesday – spelling homework and study words; math; reading homework; read for 15 minutes

Wednesday – spelling homework and study words; math; reading homework; read for 15 minutes

Thursday - math; reading homework; read for 15 minutes

Friday – any work assigned on Friday will almost always be due on the next Tuesday

Homework policy – If students do not have their homework on the due date, they will sign a homework log with the assignment missing and their name. If students have missed two or more assignments, even if they have been made up, or if they have any missing work from the week, they will miss Friday Free Time and make up the assignment(s) in a separate location from the class. If missing homework is not completed by the end of the day on Friday, it will be assigned for the weekend and due on Monday morning.

Homework Agenda – I strongly encourage parents to look over their child’s homework agenda daily. I will keep you informed of projects and ongoing assignments via the agenda.

Friday Folders – I will send home any correspondence from the school and all your child’s graded papers for the week in their Friday Folder. Only notices that are time sensitive will be sent home on any ay other than Friday.

Communication – The easiest way for me to communicate is through email. You may also call in the morning before 8:55.  Feel free to send in a note if that is easiest for you.   I feel strongly that education is a partnership between school and home and I encourage communication between home and school.

Absences – Please send a note in with your child the day he or she returns to school. I will assist your child in making up work.

Birthdays – If you’d like to send a treat in with your child on his or her birthday, please send it with them in the morning, or drop it off in the office during the morning. Please send in napkins or plates also if needed. Please don’t send in anything that needs to be cut (cakes, large cookies), candles, hats, or drinks.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to an enjoyable year working with your child.
