What to Expect That Your 4
th-Grader May Not Tell YouReading:
students are expected to read for at least 15 minutes five times a week
several at home book projects will be assigned
when using the Harcourt reading series, comprehension assessments will be given in conjunction with vocabulary quizzes
Vocabulary: (typically every week)
words from our reading are assigned weekly
homework is assigned daily (worksheet, sentences, picture, and crossword puzzle)
quiz is given on Friday
Spelling: (typically every week)
2 homework assignments of the student’s choice are suggested to help prepare for tests, these will not be graded
tests are given every Thursday
Math:
students switch classes for math
homework is usually given Monday through Thursday
Responsibilities:
students bring home and return to school with gold Take-Home folder and agenda book daily
homework is expected to be completed by given due date
weekly self-evaluation and graded work folder (orange) is completed on Friday and must be read, signed by parent, and returned to school by the following Tuesday

Reminders:
children must wear sneakers and comfortable clothes on Tuesday & Wednesday
children must bring recorder and music folder on Monday & Friday
Snack:
children may bring a healthy snack to school to be eaten at snack time
children should be able to eat their snacks while completing work
children may also bring in water bottles
Birthday Treats:
28 students and 2 adults in the classroom
sweet or healthy treats are welcome
