Attendance
If your child is ill, you will need to notify Okte. When your child returns to school, you must send a signed written excuse for his/her absence. Make-up work will be sent home with your child upon his or her return to school. In cases where the absence will be several days (chicken pox, etc.), you should make arrangements to pick up your child's assignments. Please refer to page 6 of the Elementary Student/Parent Handbook concerning family vacations.
| A backpack needs to come to school with your child every day. Inside his/her backpack should be a ‘take-home’ folder and agenda. Please be sure to check your child’s folder for homework, reminders, and school papers every night. |
Birthdays
Your child may choose to celebrate his/her birthday in school. Your child may bring a nut-free treat to share with classmates. It is helpful to select a treat that your child can easily pass out. If your child’s birthday is in the summer, we will celebrate their half-birthday. For example, if your birthday is August 20, your half birthday will be February 20. If you are planning a birthday party for your child at home, please do not send invitations to school. Please use the Okte Directory to find student addresses.
| Each month book club order forms will be sent home. They will be due on the first Thursday of each month unless otherwise specified. Please make checks payable to the book club. No cash please. If you would ever like to order books as a birthday or Christmas gift, just let your child's teacher know, and he/she will get the books to you without your child knowing.

Clothing
Your child should come to school dressed for the weather. During the winter months, please be sure that your child has a warm coat, mittens/gloves, snowpants, boots and a hat. We will continue to go outside for recess throughout the winter unless the temperature (including wind-chill) falls below 20º F. During the warmer months of school, remember that it is not safe for your child to climb on the playground equipment with flip flop sandals.
| To reach your child's teacher at school, call 881-0540. During the hours that school is in session (8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.) you will be transferred to a voicemail where you can leave a message. Remember, the agenda book is a useful communication tool.
