What is Okte Morning Program?

Morning Program is a brief 20 minute assembly every morning from 9:15-9:35 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students.  The program consists of announcements, singing songs, celebrating birthdays, sharing information and achievements, and daily educational presentations.  The purpose of Morning Program is for each child to begin each day in a positive manner—ready and eager to learn.  It is designed to help children feel pride in themselves, their classroom, school, home and community.  It encourages and reinforces proper behavior and includes character education.  Morning Program enhances the existing curriculum through special programs, guest presentations and student involvement.

Weekly routine activities include:

  • Introductions of all staff and new students

  • Celebrating birthdays

  • Learning the word of the week

  • Solving the weekly riddle and challenge

  • V.I.C.s (Very Important Child) - Beginning in October, a child from each class is recognized. V.I.C.s help keep the rhythm with instruments.

  • Learning new sign language

  • Spirit Award - A class at each grade level may be given this award for extra effort.

  • Lunchroom Hero Award - awarded to a class that best displays proper behavior during lunchtime.

Monthly routine activities include:

  • Ref Reader - "Time out for Books" with our librarian, Mrs. Bailey

  • Zero the Hero - math challenges

  • Litter Patrol - Mrs. Armstrong leads our weekly cleanup of the grounds

  • Music Day - Mr. Chaikowski

  • Art Day - Miss Waters (a.k.a. Anita Paintbrush)

  • Spotlight on Talent - See Mrs. Arthur & Mrs. Lieberman for an application

  • The Wonder Box - children use deductive reasoning skills to guess what item is in the box after a series of clues.
