 Homework

All students have spelling and math homework Monday through Thursday. The homework is due the following day unless otherwise stated. Homework is a wonderful way for your child to learn responsibility, time management, and to review skills. If homework is not turned in on time, your child will make up the work during school hours.

Days Absent

On days when your child is absent from school, please notify the office via phone or e-mail (copy to the teacher) the attendance clerk, Carol Wheeler at 881-0554. Homework requests must be placed by 9am. Homework will not be given out early for unexcused absences and will be completed upon their return.

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays in our classrooms. Please keep in mind that there are many students with food allergies. Contact the teacher 2 to 3 days ahead of your child's celebration if you have any questions about your child's birthday snack. The snack must be finger food, cupcakes and cookies work great! Please send napkins for use with the snack. Teachers will accommodate summer birthday celebrations during the school year.

A telephone directory for the entire first grade was sent home in October. If your child is having a birthday party, use the directory to mail invitations and please do not send them to school to be distributed.

Snack

We would really appreciate healthy snacks being sent in for your child. Fruits, veggies, yogurt, and cheese all help a young mind grow and stay focused throughout the day. Having such an early lunch the afternoon snack is crucial for a productive afternoon. Please make sure your child knows what should be eaten for lunch and what should be eaten for snack.

Book- It

First grade is participating in Pizza Hut's "Book It" program. Look for a reading calendar each month with different reading goals in order to receive a free personal pan pizza. The calendars need to be turned in a few days after month end. This excellent program promotes the love of reading, comprehension skills, and parent/child bonding.
