Writing

 

 *It is hard to believe this is our last update for the year.  Thank you for making this second grade year so memorable for me.   I appreciate all of the hard work and dedication from both students and parents.  I wish everyone a fun, refreshing and safe summer vacation.  Good luck in 3rd grade...You will love it!  :)

 

Reading...

  We are reading chapter books and working in Literature Circles.

*Homework:W.E.B. Calendar (read 15 min. 4x per week)  Weekly Reading tests are typically on Thursdays.

Leveled Reading Information:   Each quarter, your child will be tested in comprehension and fluency for Reading.  I will send home a cover letter at the end of each quarter informing you of what level your child is on.  Attached you will find a link with suggested stories for your child to read at home at their present level.

Spelling...

Congratulations to all Spelling Bee finalists!  A special thanks to our audience for being so patient and supportive!  We are so sorry that Lauren did not feel well today...I have a feeling she would have been in that final showdown too!  Congratulations to Jordan, Lucas, Tiffany, and Billy for making us so proud.  Congratulations to Jack for winning that "nail-biting competition"...You children are amazing spellers...not to mention how cute you looked up on that stage!  Hey...did I spell nail-biting correctly???   :)

Writer's Workshop...

~We are finalizing our poetry books.  Watch for the wonderful collection of writing that will be sent home no later than Wednesday.  :)

Math Skills...

We have finished our official math instruction.  The children worked hard and developed some amazing skills to prepare for 3rd grade math.  I really enjoyed each and every student and the opportunity to get to know other 2nd graders!   Thanks to all the moms and dads for all their support throughout the year!   :)

Science...

Wow...the alien costumes were amazing!  You are so creative!   :)

*A big thanks to June Tieckelmann and her family for sending in special articles about Jupiter and recent space news!  We will have time this week to read each article thoroughly!  :)

 

Social Studies...

A big thanks to Mr. McHale for volunteering his time and expertise while teaching our Jr. Achievement Unit this year.  Lucas was a wonderful assistant!   :)

Other News...

***We have more happy :)  news to share:  Congratulations to Joseph Esposito for mastering his subtraction facts!  Another huge CONGRATULATIONS to Joseph as he is our newest official member of the "Hundred's Club". We have 14  official "Hundred's Club" members!  We are so proud of Joseph, Tiffany, Morgan, David, Lucas, Olivia, Adam, Sara, Lauren, Billy, Jack, Sean, Clare, and Jordan.   Each child must master both addition and subtraction facts to be an official member and receive a trophy!!!***      

 

***VERY IMPORTANT***  Our room is a peanut and nut-free room...A letter was sent home listing acceptable foods.***

More News and Dates:

~June 21st, Monday~Second Grade Picnic  ~ All children were given a letter about our picnic and a sheet asking them to bring in a specific item.  Please check take-home folders if you have not received this yet!  I have a master copy of the list if you have any questions.  The items should be sent in by 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21st.  Students that don't like hotdogs should bring in a bag lunch or can buy lunch in the cafeteria and take it outside for the picnic.  Students should also wear their white track meet tshirts on our picnic day too!

~June 21st-Bullying Presentation for 2nd graders

~June 22nd-Fruit Bearing Tree Presentation for 2nd graders

~Thursday, June 24th~half day and last day of school.  Report cards will be sent home on this day.
