Reading W.E.B. Calendars: Our class will participate in Pizza Hut's "Book It!" program. The program will start on October 1st and run through the end of March. Our goal in second grade is for ALL students to read for at least 15 minutes, 4 nights per week (ALL Mondays-Thursdays). This reading should be recorded and initialed by a parent on your child's W.E.B. calendar each night and it counts as a homework assignment. W.E.B. calendars should be brought back and forth from school to home each day. At the end of each month or sooner, students will pick one of the books that they read over the month and will complete the book project found at the end of the W.E.B. calendar packet. An example is always provided. Students who met or exceeded the goal will be rewarded with a Reading Award Certificate! This certificate entitles them to a free, one-topping personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. For the remaining months of our calendar year, students will receive alternate rewards for meeting their monthly reading goal. .......Happy Reading Second Graders...... *Children should be reading at least 4 nights per week for at least 15 minutes. |

Birthdays: Families are welcome to send in a birthday goodie for us to enjoy. Please make contact with me prior to sending in the goodie so I can plan accordingly. Goodies should be sent into school with your child in the morning (if they can handle carrying it in) or dropped off in the office. Goodies should be finger foods (cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc.)...foods that your child can easily hand out to classmates. Napkins are appreciated too. If you would like to send in drinks...please send in individual juice boxes/pouches only. Summer Birthdays....will be celebrated in June if you wish. |

Snack:
We will have a daily snack. Please send a healthy snack to school with your child each day that can be consumed in approximately 10-15 minutes. I encourage and prefer snacks that are in a completely disposable container (ex. juice box) and one small food item. Forgetting one's snack can be very upsetting for a child, so please help your child to check for his or her snack each morning before they leave. I typically have extra snack on hand, but not always. |

Take Home Folder: Your child will have one folder called their "Take Home Folder." This folder will go home with them daily and should be brought back to school each and every day. One side of the folder will be labeled "keep home" and the other side is labeled "return to school." This way, all the papers coming home are somewhat organized and you are able to know what needs to be returned the next day. W.E.B. Calendars and other homework should be placed in this folder as well. It is the children's responsibility to bring this folder back each day with their homework completed. |

Scholastic Book Orders: I will send an order form home monthly. Scholastic offers a variety of literature at very reasonable prices. If you would like to place an order, be sure to fill out the order form and make out a check payable to Scholastic Book Club for the exact amount of your order. (Sorry - no cash). I also do secret book orders. Please send your order in with your child in a sealed envelope with my name on it. Label the inside order "secret." I will call or e-mail you when it comes in so we can arrange a day for you to pick it up from the main office. Books that are not labeled "secret" will be sent home upon their arrival to school. |
