Good Grief

Days Absent:
On days when a child is absent, I will gather the work that is missed and it will be placed in a "We Missed You" folder. If you would like to pick up the students work, please let me know no later than lunch time (12:00) of that day, the earlier the better. I will then make sure all work is gathered and ready by the end of the day for you to pick up, or to be sent home with another student.

*If work is to be sent home with another student...please state the student's first and last name, along with their teacher's name.

*If you are picking work up it will be available for you to pick up in the office after 2:30.

*Please remember to send in a note stating why your child was absent.

  Snoopy Reading

Reading: W.E.B. Calendars:
Our class will participate in Pizza Hut's "Book It!" program.  The program will start on October 1st and run through the end of March.  Our goal in second grade is for ALL students to read for at least 15 minutes, 4 nights per week.  This reading should be recorded and initialed by a parent on your child's W.E.B. calendar each night and it counts as a homework assignment.  W.E.B. calendars should be brought back and forth from school to home each day.  At the end of each month, students will pick one of the books that they read over the month and will complete an activity such as a picture walk or story flag.  Students who met or exceeded the goal will be rewarded with a Reading Award Certificate!  This certificate entitles them to a free, one-topping personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.  For the remaining months of our calendar year, students will receive alternate rewards for meeting their monthly reading goal.      .......Happy Reading Second Graders......

*Children should be reading at least 4 nights per week, for at least 15 minutes.

Happy Birthday

Birthdays:
Families are welcome to send in a birthday goodie for us to enjoy to celebrate a birthday.
Please make contact with me prior to sending in the goodie so I am aware of when you plan to send it in. Goodies should be sent into school with your child in the morning (if they can handle carrying it in) or dropped off in the office.

Goodies should be finger foods (cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc.) Foods that your child can easily hand out to classmates. If you would like to send in drinks...please send in individual juice boxes only.

Summer Birthdays....will be celebrated in June if you wish.

eating
Snack:
We will have a daily snack.  Please send a healthy snack to school with your child each day that can be consumed in approx. 15 minutes.  I encourage and prefer snacks that are in a completely disposable container (ex. juice box) and
one small food item.

Forgetting one's snack can be very upsetting for a child, so please help your child to check for his or her snack each morning before leaving for school.

take home Take Home Folder:
Your child will have one folder called their "Take Home Folder."  This folder will go home with them daily and should be brought back to school each and every day.  One side of the folder will be labeled "keep home" and the other side labeled "return to school."  This way all the papers coming home are somewhat organized and you are able at a glance to know what needs to be returned the next day. W.E.B. Calendars and other homework should be placed in this folder as well.  It is the children's responsibility to bring this folder back each day with their homework completed.
CharlieBrownReading Scholastic Book Orders
I will send an order form home almost monthly.  Scholastic offers a variety of literature at very reasonable prices.  If you would like to place an order, be sure to fill out the order form and make out a check payable to
Scholastic Book Club for the exact amount of your order. (Sorry - no cash).  I also do secret book orders.  Please send your order in with your child in a sealed envelope with my name on it.  Label the inside order "secret".  I will call or email you when it comes in so we can arrange a time for you to pick up your order.  Books that are not labeled "secret" will be sent home promptly upon their arrival at school.
