MATH Math is graded in 3 different areas on the report card: computation, concepts, and problem solving. (Grades depend on tests, quizzes, and homework) We also thoroughly prepare the students for the NYS Mathematics Assessment, which is given over several days in March.
Our Math curriculum is based upon Shenendehowa's Essential Content and Competencies. The process and content strands of mathematics include the following:
Process Strands: Problem Solving Reasoning and Proof Communication Connections Representations Content Strands: Number sense and operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Statistics and Probability
General Information: We have 4 math groups. Each math group will cover the material necessary for the state test and preparing for 6th grade. The curriculum is the same, however, the pacing may differ. You can expect homework almost every night and weekly assessments of quizzes or tests. We will engage students in the classroom. We will focus on many mathematical skills and concepts. We hope to expand their mathematic vocabulary. We strive for hands-on learning using various tools. We integrate problem solving throughout the year. We will continue to build our problem solving and critical thinking skills on a daily basis. Harcourt is the required text.
