1000 Book Program |
|
What is the 1000 Books Program? This program was created by NYS in the hopes that every child will be exposed to 1000 books before the start of kindergarten. The feeling is if a child is exposed to 1000 books before school starts then that child will be better prepared to start learning to recognize letters which will then learn to reading. Orenda currently participates in this program. In the Orenda main lobby there are two bright yellow carts. On these carts are bags each filled with 10 books. Families with preschool aged children are able to borrow these bags. Once a family has borrowed 100 bags then 1000 books have been read. All children are encouraged to have his or her own 1000 Book Program card. Each bag has a number and the back of the card can be used to keep track of which bags have been used. If you notice any problems with any of the books or the bags please notify the Orenda Media Center so the problem may be fixed. |
